Homicides, other crimes in Houston significantly down this year compared to 2023, according to Texas DPS data
The online portal for the Texas Department of Public Safety's Uniform Crime Reporting System, based on data self-reported by law enforcement agencies across the state, shows a 27.1% year-over-year decrease in total crime incidents as reported by the Houston Police Department during the first three months of 2024. That includes an 18.6% decrease in homicides, with there being 61 in the city during the first quarter of this year compared to 75 between January and March of 2023.
